German soprano Julia Da Rio completed her vocal studies at the Hochschule für Musik Cologne, obtaining the Konzertexamen degree in 2011 under famed pedagogue Klesie KellyMoog. During her studies, she took part in masterclasses with Edda Moser, Christoph Pregardien, Michael Hampe, and Karl-Josef Görgen, among others. She was the winner of several awards and scholarships in
Cologne and Bergheim, and was a scholarship-recipient of the Wagner Society Cologne in 2007.
She was also invited to participate in the Kammeroper Schloss Rheinsberg festival in 2011. Julia Da Rio began her stage career while still a student- haven taken on roles in conservatoryproductions, she was soon invited to sing at Theater Münster and Oper Köln. Julia Da Rio was
engaged to sing Gretel in Humperdinck’s “Hänsel und Gretel” at the Wernigeröde Festival and debuted as Musetta at the Summer Opera Bamberg in 2009. In the 2011/2012 season, Ms. Da Rio showcased her comedic talents at Staatstheater Braunschweig in the role of Christel von der
Post in Zeller’s “Der Vogelhändler.” Later that season she debuted in Wuppertal as Serpetta in Mozart’s “La finta giardiniera” to great acclaim. 2012 began a long-time cooperation with the Landestheater Coburg. Initially singing roles as a guest, Julia was a member of the soloist ensemble starting in 2016/2017, where she was able to develop her lyric-soprano repertoire in roles including
Marzelline in “Fidelio,” Gretel, a Flower Maiden in “Parsifal,” Margiana in the rarely-performed Peter Cornelius opera “Der Barbier von Bagdad,” Christel in “Der Vogelhändler,” Valencienne in “Die Lustige Witwe,” and Euridice in Glucks “Orfeo ed Euridice.” Her last season in Coburg saw
her successful debuts as a Wood Nymph in “Rusalka,” Clorinda in “La Cenerentola,” and Susanna in “Le Nozze di Figaro.” As a Lied and concert singer, Ms. Da Rio has been invited to sing in Poland, Austria, Switzerland, Holland, Italy and China.
Julia Da Rio was one of the co-founders of the Operetta-Trio “Mondieu Operettenassekuranz” in 2013, a group that has been promoting and performing criticallyacclaimed operetta revues in venues such as the Senftöpfchen Köln, at Theater Erfurt, and at the prestigious Rheingau-Musikfestival. The group was also invited to participate in the Bayerische Theatertagen in 2015. Julia has been a
freelance soprano since 2018.
